Vertical Facelift in Shreveport, LA

When we start to experience the facial aging process, it’s often hard to accept the person that we see in the mirror. This is because our facial features tend to show aging much more quickly than the rest of our body.

For many patients, the aging process keeps them from looking as youthful and vibrant as they actually feel. If this sounds familiar, the completely customizable vertical facelift procedure may be right for you!

There are a variety of various facelift techniques available, and some techniques are simply better than others. Many patients do not like the results associated with a traditional lift.

The vertical facelift is the safest and most effective technique used to rejuvenate the areas that are most widely associated with aging, including nasolabial folds, drooping cheeks, smile lines, jowls, and marionette lines.

Vertical Facelift: Facial Rejuvenation

When our faces begin to age, we no longer look as young as we feel. We lose our youthful appearance and youthful glow that we once had. Eventually, we start to become hyper-aware that our age is robbing us of our natural look.

For years, Dr. Forrest Wall has made a big difference in facial plastic and reconstructive surgical execution both locally and across the United States. And, now, using a vertical facelift technique, he’s now able to provide his patients with a more natural look.

The vertical facelift procedure is designed to address specific issues that impact a patient’s appearance. It is customized to the patient’s specific needs.

What is a Vertical Facelift?

A vertical facelift uses the ideal vertical angle to lift areas that are starting to sag due to aging. When your doctor uses the vertical approach for a facelift procedure, the facial features are lifted, creating a more heart shaped facial structure. This gives patients a more youthful appearance with better cheeks. The procedure also raises the corners of the mouth that start to sag with age, gets rid of jowls and the common turkey neck.

How a Vertical Facelift Works

A vertical facelift is essentially a highly-customizable facial rejuvenation procedure. This process allows Dr. Forrest Wall to exercise his extensive plastic surgery experience to provide the outcomes that his patients want.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Wall, he will ask about your aesthetic wishes and will develop a personalized treatment plan using the following modalities:

  • Eye Treatments: These treatments keep the area around the eyes looking bright and open.
  • Lip Lifting: This provides a more youthful pout.
  • Skin Resurfacing: Typically the last step that ensures your skin looks youthful again.
  • Volume Loss Correction Treatment: Fat transfer treatments that can naturally correct sagging skin, hollow eyes, as well as fine lines and wrinkles.

Vertical Facelift vs Traditional Facelift Surgery

When compared to a traditional facelift or a deep plane facelift surgery, a vertical facelift is more different than it is similar. A vertical facelift does just that- lifts the face vertically, instead of horizontally. This creates a much more natural look.

Furthermore, it addresses the issues on your entire face, not just a single section of it, while a traditional facelift only focuses on pulling the jawline towards your ears.

A vertical facelift releases all of your ligaments in your face and neck. This allows the tissue to be repositioned without pulling against the ligaments, creating the appearance of a neck lift without the results appearing “pulled back”.

Also, this facial rejuvenation procedure creates results that patients can enjoy for 10-15 years. This is three times longer than the expectations of a traditional face lift procedure.

Lastly, the vertical facelift is performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation. This is exponentially safer and has a significantly lower postoperative recovery period.

How a Vertical Facelift Addresses Facial Aging

It’s no secret that your skin is your body’s largest organ. And, this organ changes drastically as we age. We start experiencing loss of skin elasticity, excess skin, thinning, discoloration, wrinkles and lines, all of which impact the way that we look.

Skin Volume

The older we get, the more our facial fat begins to diminish. This often makes our faces look deflated, tired or hollow.

Loose or Excess skin

When we think of aging, loose skin is initially what comes to mind. Loose skin causes bags under our eyes, as well as sagging on the outer eyebrows, jawline and neck regions.

What Makes a Vertical Facelift Different?

A vertical facelift has taken the traditional facelift technique and improved upon it.

One of the major differences between a vertical facelift surgery and a traditional facelift is how balanced the results are. When a patient gets a vertical face lift, they receive a vertical lift on every region, from their temples to their neck, including the mid face, outer eyebrows, jawline, and neck.

In contrast, a traditional face lift or neck surgery only addresses the jawline.

When you only address the jawline, your face looks “partially treated”.

Traditional lifts tend to pull the patient’s face sideways or towards their ear. This flattens the facial features and leaves the patient’s skin looking pulled.

Most patients want a truly restored appearance and natural looking results when they undergo plastic surgery. Sadly, even with a mini lift, the results are subpar.

In contrast, a vertical facelift avoids the “pulling” issue altogether by slightly lifting your soft tissues back to their original positions. This vertical lifting technique helps us improve outcomes associated with facelift procedures.

One of the major benefits of a vertical facelift procedure is the quick healing times. This is attributed to the lack of disruption between your skin and the fascia.

This vertical reconstructive surgery not only lasts longer, but it helps to create a restored appearance of the midface, nasolabial folds, neck, cheeks, jowls, and jawline.

Most patients can expect a 10 to 14 day recovery period. Some of the benefits will show immediately while others continue to improve as the weeks (and in some cases, months) pass.

What Problem Areas Does a Vertical Facelift Surgery Address?

We’ll discuss in detail how a vertical facelift is superior for the following areas:

Neck Lift

When undergoing any type of facial plastic surgery, the neck should always be addressed. The standard, horizontal face lift doesn’t address the neck because instead of vertically repositioning problem areas, it simply pulls the face sideways.

There are muscles in your neck that are attached to your cheeks. This causes your neck to descend with your cheeks, as they begin to sag.

A vertical facelift, however, addresses this concern by vertically repositioning the neck.

Additionally, as we age, the deep fat pads under our neck muscles begin to grow. This will often look like a double chin or in more extreme cases, a turkey neck.

Using the vertical facelift technique, our American Board-Certified plastic surgeon will go under the muscle to remove the stubborn fat pad along with any other unwanted structures that make your neck look fat or bulky.

Once Dr. Wall has removed the fat pad, he will address the platysma muscle, a neck muscle that tends to lengthen with age. He will reduce this muscle by trimming and then suturing the area. After the vertical facelift, the neck’s results will be much more evident.

He then removes loose or excess skin from behind the ears as well as above the ears. This leaves your neck looking significantly smoother.

Jawline and Mid Face Lift

When Dr. Wall addresses the jawline and midface region, he uses a deep plane facelift approach. This releases the facial ligaments that hold your face in the “drooping” or aging position.

Without releasing these ligaments, you’re limited on how much you’re able to reposition certain aspects, such as the jowls and cheeks.

Outer Brow Lift

With a vertical facelift, the patient doesn’t receive a total brow lift. This is because only the outer portion of the brow tends to sag. When you pull the entire eyebrow up, this can cause the patient to look surprised or like a completely different person, which we obviously don’t want. So, unless the entire eyebrow area is sagging, we leave the area alone.

Dr. Wall uses a minimally invasive approach to create a more natural result. This approach includes repositioning the tail of the eyebrow back to its original position. For women, this position is just above the orbital rim. And, for men, it is in line with the orbital rim.
