Lip Flip in Shreveport and Monroe

Full, kissable lips are always in high demand, and achieving the perfect pout is as simple as getting a manicure during your lunch break. Lip plumping is among the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures and a very popular use for dermal fillers. However, fillers aren’t the only way to achieve fuller, larger lips.

Some patients want a less dramatic effect and some just want to try out a shorter-term option. (Fillers can last 6 to 12 months). If you want to augment your lips but don’t want to use fillers, you could try Botox injections for a quick treatment called a “lip flip.”

What is a Lip Flip?

Lip flipping is a nonsurgical cosmetic surgery that helps create the appearance of a larger lip. It does so without the use of dermal fillers. Instead, Botox is injected into the Cupid’s bow of the upper lip and into the corners of your mouth to relax the muscles and “flip” the lip upward. The procedure is quick and simple and only takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete. The muscles around your mouth are temporarily relaxed after the injection. This is what causes the inside part of your top lip to flip upward and outward, giving the appearance of a bigger lip. While the procedure makes the lip appear larger, the size of the lip does not actually increase.

Lip Flip vs. Lip Fillers

Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane treat fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss in the face. Both are hyaluronic acid fillers, which is a naturally occurring chemical in our bodies. Hyaluronic acid aids in the restoration of moisture and volume to the skin. When the filler is injected directly into the lips and Vermillion border, definition and volume are restored, producing a larger, pouty lip that is soft and natural-looking.

A lip flip, on the other hand, is a newer type of cosmetic treatment for the lips. The popular procedure relaxes the orbicularis muscle in the upper lip with Botox injections into muscle, which causes the upper lip to relax and flip outwards, giving the illusion of a slightly larger lip. It’s a popular solution for those who don’t want to add volume to their lips but want to address the “gumminess” of their smile.

Where to Inject Botox for Lip Flip

Botox is injected into the center and corners of your top lip. This causes the muscles holding the upper lip to relax and softly roll out. This gives the appearance of a natural, sexy pout. A secondary benefit to this procedure is the elimination of fine, vertical lines above the upper lip. A lip flip may be especially effective for people who have smiles that show a lot of gums. Because the top lip raises less after a lip flip, less gum shows when the person grins.

Botox Lip Flip: How Many Units?

Now for the big question: how much Botox is needed to create a lip flip? Typically, about 10 units of Botox are required for this procedure, though it is fewer in some cases. It really depends on the type of Botox used by your physician. This is due to the treated region being much smaller than other areas of the face where Botox is used. Here’s a quick breakdown of the average number of Botox units needed for different injections over the face. Frown lines typically take 25 units, while the forehead takes 15, crow’s feet need 12, 6 for lip lines, and 20 for the cheeks.  That’s not a lot of Botox compared to other facial Botox procedures, making the lip flip one of the most affordable and fastest Botox treatments in Shreveport and the surrounding areas.

What is the Recovery Like for Lip Flips?

After undergoing your procedure, you should avoid exercising for the rest of the day and sleep on your back that night. For the first several hours after therapy, a slight bump at the injection site is common. Bruising is also possible. You can resume your normal activities after a lip flip, as long as you don’t put pressure on your lips for at least three to four days after the injections. This includes kissing, applying makeup, sleeping facedown, and touching your lips.  Patients will notice that their top lip seems plumper as their lip muscle relaxes two to three days after the procedure. The best results will be evident within a week to ten days. The changes are not as dramatic as lip fillers, but they are obvious to patients.

How Much is a Lip Flip?

Because a lip flip is a cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance. However, it is far less expensive than dermal fillers and many other Shreveport med spa injections because it only utilizes a few units of Botox. Where you have the procedure done and the skill of your physician will determine the cost of the treatment. You should avoid having Botox injected by a doctor or clinic with minimal experience and a questionable track record. In fact, be sure to ask how many times the person doing your injections has performed the procedure. All things considered, the cost of a lip flip typically ranges anywhere between $80 and $500. However, you should also take into account that if you want to regularly maintain your lip flip, you’ll have to return for treatment up to three times as often as you would for filler injections. All in all, for those who desire a slight, but noticeable increase in their lips’ appearance, lip flips by way of Botox might be the most cost-effective choice.

How Long Does a Lip Flip Last?

Keep in mind that a lip flip is not a permanent procedure. Botox in general usually lasts about three months, although, for a variety of reasons, lip flips don’t last quite as long. For starters, the lip flip entails injections into a muscle that we use constantly: the orbicularis oris muscle. In fact, we use this muscle more than any other facial muscle. This results in shorter-lasting benefits than with standard Botox treatments. If you find that the effects are wearing off, you can choose to have additional Botox injections to enhance your results and maintain your appearance.

Where To Get a Lip Flip Near Me

The lip flip is an easy way to give your lips that additional wow factor a few days before any big date or event, with a procedure that can be completed in 20 minutes or less. As with any Botox treatment, you should never have Botox injected by a beginner. Doing so may increase any potential risk factors and could end with less than ideal results.
