BOTOX® Shreveport-Bossier

Botox Shreveport

We laugh, smile, frown, squint, and raise our eyebrows every day. All of these facial movements create small creases in our skin. As our skin ages and becomes less elastic, these dynamic wrinkles permanently add to our appearance. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical way to remove frown lines and wrinkles. Botox Shreveport is a quick, virtually painless procedure performed in-office.

Some individuals would like to enhance their appearance but do not want to undergo cosmetic surgery. Taking time off work to regain their youthful appearance is not an option, and they desire as little downtime as possible. When skin creams and makeup are no longer enough to camouflage the signs of aging, Botox may be the solution.

Dr. Forrest Wall and The Plastic Surgery Center staff look forward to helping our patients explore their wrinkle treatment options. Please call us today to find out if Shreveport Botox therapy is the best fit for you.

What is Botox?

Botox treatments Shreveport

The Botox used in injections is a form of botulinum toxin type A. After injection, the toxin temporarily paralyzes muscles that cause wrinkles. Specifically, the injection utilizes OnabotulinumtoxinA.

A Botox injection reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes, and lines in the neck. Botox use results in a more refreshed and youthful appearance.

Areas Treated by Botox Treatment

Physicians use Botox Cosmetic in the following locations:

  • Around the eyes to treat crow’s feet
  • Between the eyebrows to treat frown lines
  • Forehead lines and wrinkles
  • Lower face and neck
  • Outer brow injection can achieve a brow lift
  • Vertical lines around the lips

Botox also has FDA approval for the treatment of these additional medical conditions:

  • Chronic migraines
  • Excessive palms, soles, or underarms sweating
  • Lazy eye
  • Lower limb spasticity
  • Muscle contracture
  • Neck spasms
  • Overactive bladder

How Do Botox Treatments Work?

Skin loses elasticity with age, and the fat in the deeper layers of the skin decreases. Wrinkles are most common in areas of the face and body exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light, such as the face, neck, forearms, and hands. Repeated facial expressions and movements, like smiling and squinting, also cause fine lines and wrinkles. Smoking also plays a significant role in the formation of wrinkles by accelerating the normal aging process.

All of these factors contribute lines and crevices to sagging, loose skin. Botox temporarily smooths lines and wrinkles caused by aging and other factors.

Doctors, nurse practitioners, or nurses perform Botox procedures in-office. They inject minuscule amounts of Botox into the muscles or skin using a fine needle. The botulinum toxin temporarily stops the targeted muscles from contracting.

How Much Botox Do I Need?

Your desired results and treatment plan dictate the number of units needed. Specific considerations include the patient’s age, weight, gender, skin tone and shade, and lifestyle habits such as smoking. Each patient is different, but generally, the average amounts needed for the areas of the face are:

  • Forehead – 20 units
  • Glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyes) – 20 units
  • Lateral Canthal Line (crow’s feet) – 24 units

Each injection is equal to 4 units. Medical professionals recommend using as few units as possible during the initial Botox treatments.

Are Botox Injections Safe?

There are few known side effects involved with Botox use. These include pain, temporary bruising or swelling, mild muscle aches, headache, drooling or crooked smile, and eye dryness or watering.

It’s rare, but the toxin can spread in the body, causing more adverse reactions. These include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing or speaking
  • Loss of bladder control
  • Muscle weakness
  • Vision problems

Physicians recommend that those who are pregnant or nursing not receive Botox therapy. Patients allergic to cow’s milk protein should not use Botox either.

It’s crucial that you select your Botox provider carefully. This cosmetic procedure should only be performed under a physician’s care with injections precisely placed to avoid side effects.

Dr. Forrest Wall and his staff have extensive experience with Botox. They excel at helping patients achieve their desired look with Botox injections and other nonsurgical treatments such as dermal fillers.

Does Botox Relax Facial Muscles?

Shreveport Botox injection

The botulinum toxin in Botox targets and temporarily paralyzes specific muscles. This “relaxes” the muscles and erases the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

How Should I Prepare for Botox?

The botulinum toxin in Botox targets and temporarily paralyzes specific muscles. This “relaxes” the muscles and erases the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

A Botox injection requires little preparation. It is a nonsurgical treatment performed in-office that takes little preparation. You can, however, minimize bruising after your treatment.

During the week before your Botox injections, you should avoid taking these supplements and medications:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Ginseng
  • Fish Oil
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginkgo Biloba

Be up front with Dr. Wall about any medications or supplements you use. Ask him if you aren’t sure if you should temporarily discontinue taking something. Also, let him know about your medical history, conditions, or allergies. He will advise you on the best course of action based on your desired outcome.

You should also avoid drinking alcohol or wine on the days before and after your treatment. Alcohol is a blood thinner and a vasodilator (dilates the blood vessels). Thinner blood and dilated blood vessels increase blood flow. Injection site bruising and swelling are possible side effects. Although having a glass or two in the days pre-and post-treatment increases your bruising risks; it does not mean you will bruise or swell. However, if you know you bruise easily, you may want to skip that glass of wine or margarita.

What Can I Expect After Botox Injections?

How quickly does Botox work? Changes may be noticeable within 5-7 days after your Botox injections. Generally, the effects of your Botox Shreveport injection should last approximately 3-6 months, and you may need further treatments. Some patients may enjoy their Botox results for up to six months before needing a follow-up injection.

Most patients can resume their normal activities as soon as they receive injections. However, avoid rubbing, applying pressure to, or massaging the skin at your injection site for optimal results. If you do so, Botox may spread into other body parts and affect outcomes.

Lying down or bending over should also be avoided for three to four hours after receiving Botox between the eyebrows. The Botox could slide under the orbital rim (eye socket) and potentially cause an eyelid droop.

How Much Does Botox Cost?

Botox treatment costs vary depending on several factors, including the number of units needed, the size of the area treated, and where you receive your treatment.

Health insurance does not cover the cost of cosmetic Botox.
