Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) in Shreveport

Rhinoplasty, or cosmetic surgery of the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. It can be performed to reduce the size of a nose or improve the shape of a nose that a patient feels is too big, overly wide, or misshapen. While rhinoplasty often involves very subtle adjustments, the end result can give the face an entirely different appearance. So, whether you have been unhappy with the appearance of your nose for your whole life, you regularly experience breathing problems, or you’ve had your nose altered as a result of an injury, rhinoplasty offers a solution for you.

At The Plastic Surgery Center in Shreveport and Monroe, our plastic surgeon Dr. Forrest Wall uses a conservative approach to achieve the most attractive and natural-looking outcomes. The goal is to create a nose that is more aesthetically pleasing, meets your cosmetic needs, and functions properly. If you’re interested in receiving a nose job in Shreveport, Monroe, or the surrounding areas, schedule your consultation with Dr. Wall today.

How Does a Rhinoplasty Procedure Work?

There are many ways in which rhinoplasty can improve one’s nasal appearance, and in turn, their entire facial appearance. This surgery can reduce or increase the overall size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow or widen the nostrils, and much more. Not only can rhinoplasty enhance the nose’s appearance, but it can also significantly improve one’s breathing as well as their overall sense of confidence.

Surgical techniques for rhinoplasty differ based on the exact problem that is being treated, but the basic details for the procedure remain the same. The surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed while the patient is sedated or under general anesthesia. Depending on the desired look, Dr. Wall will either remove superfluous tissue and cartilage to shrink the nose or create and expand cartilage to properly reshape it. The skin is reconstructed and placed over the newly improved framework, and the nasal features are adjusted. Stitches will then be made in the natural external fold or on the inner part of the nose.

How Much Does a Rhinoplasty Cost?

The price of rhinoplasty varies, depending on a wide number of factors. One of these is the technique employed and the complexity of the surgery as a whole. With that being said, the current average cost for a nose job sits at around $5,500, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. However, this is only a portion of the overall cost, as it excludes things like operating room and anesthesia costs.

At The Plastic Surgery Center, we will listen to your concerns and desired results before calculating a quote for you based on your treatment plan. We will also inform you of what you can expect to pay for things like facility charges, anesthetia fees, medication, and other related expenses.

It’s important to remember that when weighing your options, the cheapest option likely won’t be the best option. Surgery is truly a “you get what you pay for” expenditure, so anyone who offers incredibly low prices that sound too good to be true will more than likely be, well, too good to be true. An experienced, board-certified surgeon will likely cost more, but you can expect much better results.

Nose Job Cost Louisiana

Another factor that determines the cost of a nose job is the region in which you are located. Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills or New York City, for example, will cost significantly more than a rhinoplasty in Shreveport or Monroe, Louisiana. This doesn’t necessarily mean that one surgeon is more skilled than the other, but rather that the cost of living in those areas is much higher, so you can expect to pay much more for virtually anything in a bigger metropolitan city, including cosmetic surgery.

How To Afford a Nose Job

Most cosmetic surgeries are not covered by insurance, as they are typically elective surgery and not a medical emergency or necessity. There are cases, however, where rhinoplasties can be covered by health insurance. Most insurance companies will cover the cost of a rhinoplasty operation if it improves or corrects breathing problems caused by structural damage or a deformity. As such, if there is a functional or medical component to the treatment, such as breathing difficulty or a deviated septum, that aspect of the procedure may be covered by an individual’s insurance plan. Everyone’s policy is different, so you may need to inquire about the parameters of your medical criteria with your insurer to see if this is an option for you.

In addition, The Plastic Surgery Center offers convenient financing plans and payment options, making it easier than ever before to pay for a nose job (or any other procedure, for that matter). Contact our Shreveport or Monroe locations to learn about the cost of surgery and all of our available financing options. During your appointment, our staff will review your goals and help you choose a financing plan or payment option that works best for you.

Who is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

The best candidates for a rhinoplasty are those people who are looking for a realistic improvement in the way they look, not those searching for perfection. In addition, healthy patients with no serious medical conditions or illnesses and who don’t smoke are generally the best candidates for this type of procedure.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Get a Nose Job?

Rhinoplasties are the most requested cosmetic procedure by those in their teenage years, but just how old do you have to be to actually get one? Most surgeons will not perform a nose job on someone until their nose has fully developed or has reached at least 90% of its development. For girls, this typically occurs around the age of 13 or 14, while for boys, this may happen at the ages of 15 to 16. In general, the rule of thumb is to wait until you are at least 15 to receive a nose job.

What To Expect After a Nose Job

After nasal surgery, you may have acute swelling or black-and-blue discoloration of your eyelids for two to three weeks. This is normal. To minimize bleeding and swelling, you should relax in bed with your head raised higher than your chest after surgery. Internal dressings are usually left in place for one to seven days after surgery. A splint is also applied to your nose by your doctor for protection and support. This stays in place for roughly a week on average.

For a few days following surgery or after removing the bandage, minor bleeding, mucous discharge, and old blood drainage should be expected. To absorb drainage, your doctor will place a piece of gauze secured with adhesive beneath your nose. You’ll need to replace this gauze as directed by your surgeon.

Whether you undergo surgery or not, your nose changes with time. As a result, determining exactly when you’ve achieved your final result can be challenging. Within a year, however, the majority of the swelling will have subsided.

Your doctor will advise you on specific aftercare instructions and walk you through the recovery process. Be sure to follow all precautions and instructions as provided by your surgeon to ensure a speedy recovery and optimal results.

Rhinoplasty Risks

Although rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures, there are still potential risks that come along with it. This is true for any surgical procedure. Your doctor will provide you with a more detailed explanation of all of the risks associated with this procedure as well as the potential side effects.

Possible risks that may accompany rhinoplasty include but are not limited to:

  • Infection
  • Diffculty breathing through the nose
  • Scarring
  • Swelling and discomfort that may persist
  • Permanent numbness around the nose
  • Discoloration
  • Septal perforation (a hole in the septum)
  • Asymmetrical nose
  • Need for further surgery
  • Anesthesia problems

You may address any concerns with Dr. Wall during your initial consultation.
