Facelift Surgery in Shreveport

It is common knowledge: our skin grows looser and less elastic as we age. This natural process is aided by exposure to the sun, wind, lifestyle choices, and environmental pollutants. The face often reveals a person’s age more than any other area of the body. As such, it is very normal for aging men and women to seek a cosmetic procedure that lifts and tightens their faces, revealing that youthful, firm glow they long for.

A facelift, technically called a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that offers just that. It works to create a smoother, more youthful appearance of the face. Sagging, creasing, or folds of skin on the cheekbones and jawline, as well as other changes in the structure of the face that occur with age, can be significantly reduced with this surgery.

Facelift FAQs

A facelift in Shreveport can be done in either a hospital setting or an outpatient surgical facility. The procedure works by lifting the skin and tightening the underlying tissues and muscles. There are a few different techniques that can be used when it comes to incisions. These include a traditional incision, a limited incision, and a neck lift incision. For a traditional incision, your surgeon will start at your temples in the hairline and cut downwards and around the front of your ears. The incision will end behind your ears on your lower scalp. If you would like to target the neck area as well, an incision might also be made beneath your chin to do so.

Using a limited incision technique, your surgeon will start at your hairline just above your ear and continue the incision around the front of your ear. Meanwhile, a neck lift incision begins in front of your earlobe and continues around your ear and into your lower scalp. Your surgeon will also make a small incision beneath your chin. Speak with your doctor to learn more about each technique and which one might be right for you.

Once the proper incisions are made, fat will then be sculpted, eliminated, or redistributed in the face and neck. The loose facial skin will then be draped back over the newly repositioned contours and tightened by removing excess skin. Finally, the incisions will be closed and the procedure will conclude.

Once the swelling and bruising subside after about 2-3 weeks, the face is left looking smoother, younger, and much more sculpted.

A mini facelift is a scaled-down version of a traditional facelift. Your plastic surgeon will use small incisions along your hairline to elevate the bottom part of your face and repair drooping skin around the neck and jawline. This procedure is still considered to be invasive, but requires less incisions and removes less excess skin from the face, hence a “mini” facelift.

Ideal candidates for a facelift in Shreveport and the surrounding areas are often in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, though this is not always the case. Anyone with drooping skin and wrinkles on the bottom half of their face is a good candidate for a face lift. Above all, healthy, nonsmoking individuals who do not possess any medical condition that might impair healing are the best candidates for this procedure.

A facelift in Shreveport usually takes between two to four hours, although it might take longer if additional cosmetic procedures are being performed at the same time.

There are certainly options for those who want to tighten their facial structure without going under the knife. One of the treatments we offer here at The Plastic Surgery Center, FaceTite, is a great alternative to the traditional facelift procedure. FaceTite achieves similar results to a facelift without involving any scalpels or long incisions. Instead, it uses Radio-Frequency Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL) to tighten and lift loose, aging skin.

During a FaceTite procedure, your surgeon will create small holes in the outer layer of the skin. These holes will heal quickly and won’t leave scars. Your surgeon will use two electrodes: one on the inner layer of skin and one on the outer layer. The inner layer of the skin absorbs radio-frequency (RF) radiation as heat through these tiny pores. These electrodes will also monitor the patient's skin temperature to guarantee optimum safety and comfort. The parallel electrodes' concentrated heat will contract the strands of collagen already present in your skin and jumpstart the production of more. This will lead to more youthful, lifted, tighter skin on the face, jowls, and neck, all without the need for incisions.

Another nonsurgical option that yields similar results to a facelift is the radio frequency micro-needling treatment Morpheus8. During the procedure, your doctor will make microscopic puncture marks in the skin with tiny needles. This will force the dermis to create new collagen in order to repair itself. Morpheus8 also delivers heat energy below this superficial layer of skin and remodels the adipose fat in this sub-dermal layer of skin, which makes it the only treatment that targets this deeper layer of tissue.

At The Plastic Surgery Center, we also offer Botox injections, Juvederm for marionette lines, nonsurgical treatment for jowls, and other treatments that can help tighten the face and reduce signs of aging.

Immediately following your procedure, bandages will be used to cover your incisions and offer moderate pressure to reduce swelling and bruising. To drain any extra blood or fluid, a tiny tube may be inserted beneath the skin behind one or both of your ears. It is normal during this time to experience mild to moderate pain, swelling, bruising, drainage, and/or numbness in the face.

Your surgeon will likely remove the drainage tube the day following surgery, apply antibiotic ointment to your incision sites, and apply fresh bandages to your face. Over the next few days, you’ll want to take things easy. Rest with your head elevated and take pain medication as directed by your doctor. You may be able to move from bandages to an elasticized facial sling two to three days following your facelift.

Your doctor will remove your stitches and examine the progress about a week after surgery. Every patient’s recovery is different, but for the most part, you can expect to make a full recovery two to three weeks following your facelift surgery.

Average Cost of Facelift

The cost of a facelift surgery depends on the surgeon’s skill, the technique performed, and the geographic location in which the surgery takes place. According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, the average cost of a facelift sits somewhere between $7,700 and $11,780. However, this may only be a portion of the overall cost, as it does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities, and other associated costs. You will be able to get a more accurate price estimate during your consultation with Dr. Wall.
